BLACKCHORDS RELEASE NEW SINGLE ‘SLEEPWALKER’
Band launches online remix competition
Melbourne’s indie-dance rock outfit Blackchords launch the third single ‘Sleepwalker’, lifted from the recently released album ‘A Thin Line’ through ABC Music this week.
‘Sleepwalker’ has been mixed for radio by Mitch Kenny from Studio’s 301 in Sydney, via Record Plant in Los Angeles (credits include: Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa, Chris Brown, Marvin Priest, Beyonce, Drapht, Hermitude & Paul Kelly, Owl Eyes, Missy Higgins).
“Sleepwalker reflects the tensions of a city street during the small hours of a Saturday morning pre-dawn and sits in your mind like a rooms' walls moving from artificial light into morning.
The song came to light after a long week of work.... Working for money, working to get by, work that numbs the senses. I came to find myself sitting in an old pub, drinking a pint alone. Trying to unwind. This place was littered with television screens and racing results. Drunk men numbing themselves just that little bit more. I started getting glimpses of this song whilst sitting there. In my mind, the world that I was inhabiting, we are all asleep.” – Nick Milwright, Blackchords
Along with the radio edit, the band also launches an Online Remix Competition for ‘Sleepwalker’ – putting it out to anyone keen to try his or her hand at a cool remix. The winner will be announced in September with the winning mix being serviced to radio and music media around the country. More details of the competition are on the band’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/blackchords
With a sound that has been described as epic, power-pop and stadium-ready, Sarah Galdes (The Tiger & Me) joins Blackchords to complete the band’s brand new line-up.
“The band has experimented more with big-synth sounds on this record and it’s this direction they channel live… They have a similar epic quality to other power-pop bands such as Delphic and The Temper Trap.
Blackchords’ performance is exhilarating, the songs are enormous and joyful. Nick Milwright is a superb frontman with a stunning voice and possesses a Tom Meighan-esque self-assurance” – Inpress
“The Blackchords wouldn’t seem out of place in bigger venues and though it’s too early to predict A Thin Line’s future, it is safe to say that the Melbourne outfit are putting on solid shows and are definitely worth seeing live” – The Dwarf
“The second offering… takes the blueprint set by their self-titled debut – sprawling soundscapes bent to the will of whimsical, Eighties-flavoured pop-rock – and adds subtle new dimensions. U2-through-a-Coldplay-kaleidoscope balladeering is still a central element, but that approach collides… with squelches of electronic ambition and a new immediacy.” – Rolling Stone
“The second studio album… is set to have everyone in awe, providing a serene sound that mixes indie rock influences with a splash of electro… Each song easily rates a nine out of ten.” – Blunt Magazine
